Getting rid of toenail fungus
Believe me when I say that I've searched the web many times for an effective toenail fungus cure. When I thought I found something that was effective it turned out to be the opposite, the fungus came back. I personally prefer not to use chemicals or aggressive medicine to treat any problems that I'm having. Herbal cures can be just as good if applied properly.
Now some background information on
toenail fungus :
The fungus that affects toenails is also seen quite often on the fingernails. The group that causes fungus are called dermatophytes. These nasty buggers actually feed on keratin, which basically is the stuff that makes up your nails. If you let these creatures do their thing your toenails will slowly become disfigured, and in the process you will get a nice yellow colour for free. Research has found toenail fungus to be extremely contagious, and some studies link it with genetics (genes decide whether you have a higher chance of attracting toenail fungus).
Untreated your new toenail inhabitants will cause your toenail to turn brown. Nasty, bad smelling stuff will accumulate underneath the nail. It isn't a pretty sight at all! And the smell can be extremely displeasing. At some point the toenail can thicken because of the accumulated debris, making it painful to wear shoes or other footwear. In the end the toenail will simply fall off.
One thing most fungi love is damp areas, making swimming pools a prime spot to get infected. Always wear something on your feet while walking around in damp areas. And just as important : after taking a bath or shower, make sure that you dry your feet completely. People, especially those who are sensitive to developing toenail fungus, will make the situation worse by not following this important rule.
I have personally tried tea tree oil, and can report that it works quite nicely. Using tea tree oil does not mean that you can abandon proper foot care. You will still need to keep your feet clean, and dry - and make sure you stay away from areas in which fungi thrive. Cotton socks are the best option as this material will absorb any traces of water still left on your feet after drying them.
Good luck, and may the nasty toenail fungus stay away from your feet!
