Preventing and curing - effective ingrown toenail remedies
Got an ingrown toenail and are looking for a remedy? We can understand your quest for good ingrown toenail remedies! This condition can hurt like hell, as we know too well.
Taking care of your toenails is very important. I've learned this lesson many years ago (better learn it quick!). While I didn't bother cutting my toenails properly the nail of my big toe started growing into the flesh. The nail curved downward. The skin in which it grew became red and very sensitive. At first the pain wasn't so bad so I disregarded it, and thought it would heal all by itself. But boy, was I wrong! Several weeks later I could barely put my shoes on.
I had to find a way to get the nail to grow straight again, without entering the skin. Several ingrown toenail remedies were tested by me, using my toenail as guinea pig. Tea tree oil, all kinds of creams.. nothing seemed to help much.
What did help quite a bit was baking soda water. Putting that in warm water and then putting your foot in the water has a relaxing effect on the infected area (the area in which your toenail grows).
So what exactly happens with ingrown toenails? As the nail curves downwards, it starts growing into the skin (at the nail borders). This really irritates your skin causing pain and redness. Breaks in the skin due to
the ingrown toenail allows various bacteria to enter the skin - which in
turn causes an infection. It is therefore important to find ingrown toenail remedies for your situation as soon as possible, to prevent infection. Infection makes it more painful and a lot messier.
Other than cutting your nails properly, make sure you don't wear shoes that are too tight. Pressure on the nail can also cause it to grow downwards. A good toenail clipper is vital.
To recap : if no infection has taken place yet, go place your feet in warm water with baked soda water. Making sure you cut your nails properly after this (your nails are weak after being in contact with the soda and warm water for some time, allowing you to cut them quite easily). Early forms of infection can usually be treated the same way, if you are a healthy person. If the infection is severe it is recommended that you consult a professional. They can inform you about diferent ingrown toenail remedies, or perhaps surgery to remove the nail in extreme cases. A toenail file will also be helpful as it allows you to remove sharp edges from your toenail.
